Covid-19 Fishing Guidelines for the Spring – Saskatchewan
Warmer spring weather has finally arrived and regulations have been set for angling activities in the province due to Covid-19. Fishing season kicked off at the beginning of May in Saskatchewan, and angling and hunting licenses are currently still available. During the COVID-19 pandemic, individuals are still expected to follow social distancing guidelines and while normal licences are still available, licences for competitive fishing events are not being offered at this time.
Provincial Parks are now open to Saskatchewan residents for activities where physical distancing can be maintained. These activities include access to boat launches, hiking and biking.
Things to keep in mind when casting a line:
At all times, individuals are expected to follow the province’s Public Health Orders and physical distancing guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health.
- Passengers in boats do not have to be from the same household, but must maintain as much separation as possible.
- Shoreline anglers must adhere to a strict two-metre distance between individuals.
- Fishing off public docks, dams, jetties or marinas is prohibited.
- Parks will provide limited access to bathroom facilities for day-use only, with enhanced sanitization protocols and increased frequency of maintenance.
- No access to shower facilities will be permitted.
- Filleting shacks or tables will be closed.
- All angling and hunting regulations and licensing requirements are still in effect.
Adhere to all travel advisories and self-isolation requirements.
- A Public Health Order issued April 24, 2020, restricts travel into the Northern Administration District until further notice, and there may be other municipal, First Nation community or federal closures in effect in some areas, so check for access before you go.
- Check ahead to make sure that any park or other recreation site is open.
- The Saskatchewan fishing season begins on the following dates:
Southern Zone – May 5, 2020
Central Zone – May 15, 2020
Northern Zone – May 25, 2020

COVID-19 has had an impact on nearly every part of normal life, and that includes fishing. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. So long as the proper precautions are being taken, the peacefulness of lakes, and the quiet sport of fishing can still be enjoyed.
